Translators’ Best Web Sites

About Google's Page Ranking (PR) Index: Google ranks all web pages on a scale from 0 to 10 according to the number of links that lead to that page and the importance of the referring pages. A low PR number does not reflect the quality of the page, but may tell the owner that it needs more marketing effort to make the page more "popular." You can check the PR of your, or any other, web page at http://www.prchecker.info/check_page_rank.php, for example. For an explanation of Google's PageRank technology, see http://www.google.com/technology/.

Johannes Tan's Site
http://www.indotransnet.com/
A website providing plenty of information about this Indonesian translator and interpreter. Nor is he modest in the use of adjectives like "top notch," "acclaimed," "highly skilled," etc. Pages include Résumé, Services, Commendation[s], Standards, Articles (yes, including two articles for the TJ), Rates, and Links (listing five translators/translation services) and a website designer. Xosé Castro Roig's Web Site
http://xcastro.com/
A very attractive bilingual (Spanish and English) site. Unfortunately the Spanish portion is still under construction. The English portion is represented by a single page. The other pages are in Spanish only: Articles (Xosé's and others'), Courses, Radio & TV. While the title banner's first word (after the site title/URL "Xcastro.com") is "translation," no page is dedicated to this activity. Also missing is the button (except for the title/URL) for returning to the Spanish-language home page from the other pages. It is to be hoped that the site will be better organized after the reconstruction.

Steven Marzuola's Site
http://www.techlanguage.com/
A simple, matter-of-fact site. In addition to his (quite impressive) résumé and list of subject-matter specialties, Steven provides links to the Web pages of organizations he belongs to: the American Translators Association and the Houston Interpreters and Translators Association. He also features two colleagues, provides useful computer tips, and reproduces his presentation at the May 2007 ATA Energy Conference.
